Today for the second time without warning my MacBook Pro’s keyboard and trackpad stopped working again. It works fine with an external keyboard and mouse so it’s definitely a hardware issue… again. Fortunately I bought an Apple Care Protection Plan with it but it still is annoying. I have had the same issue already a few months ago and brought my MacBook Pro to an Apple dealer.
They were able to fix it quite fast and told me it was due to the small controller the keyboard and trackpad are connected to:

What baffles me is that I have read of people having so many different issues with their MBP’s, but nowhere does this keyboard/trackpad issue feature.
I guess I should just be happy that I don’t have any of the other issues. Well that’s not quite true - the MBP does get quite hot… not much different than what my Dell used to do I guess, but this thing is made out of aluminium and the Dell was plastic. To solve this problem I bought myself an iLap which has been the best accessory for my MBP yet. I finally can work comfortably at my desk, on the couch or anywhere else I can sit, without burning holes into my legs.
