The whole story (from Rachaels perspective):
Ok, Ok...this is Rachael talking...and I figure I should definately give the "girly" version of the story and how it all happened!! So here it is...
Andy and I met each other last year in July, on the YWAM Campus here in Burtigny, we were both on campus from Sept - Dec, which is when we first started to get to know each other. We continued our friendship and it got more serious over Christmas and the new year...then I came back to Burtigny to do the CBVM (Communication and Biblical View of Man) school in April, and he was on staff of that school. During the CBVM we realised that our friendship had developed on a much deeper level and decided we wanted to take it further, so we started our relationship on the 27 April, 2003.
On the 27th of November, 7 months after being together, Andy gave me a red rose as a gift..and then every day, until the 5th December I found a red rose and a card on my bed each night. I was wondering what he was up to, and how long he was planning on keeping this going.
Then, on Saturday, the 6th December, we had planned to go out for the day, but he came and got me up earlier than I expected and had me come down for breakfast with him in the staff kitchen...where I found a beautifully laid table and another vase of roses...so sweet! But I was still just thinking he was being lovely (as he is so often), and wasn't thinking he was building up to anything else specifically!
After breakfast we headed out in the car towards Lausanne, but instead of going straight to the motorway...he veered down towards Rolle, a small town on the lake. When we got there, he just pulled up to the carpark along the lakefront and took me for a walk...well we have done that a lot before and he is very thoughtful, so it was just fun and I went along!
As we were walking, we came to the spot where we had first kissed after our relationship began, and he got down on one knee...at which point I totally freaked out and started jumping all over the place with excitement and suprise saying "I can't believe you're doing this, how did you plan this? I can't believe it...etc, etc... until he finally had to get me to sit down so I would pay attention. ![]()
Then he pulled a paper out of his backpack and began to read from it all the things he is committing himself to by asking me to marry him...and with each statement he gave me another red rose. I ended up sitting there with a bunch of roses, and then he asked me to marry him....and of course I said YES!!! When we got back to the Campus, there was another huge bunch of roses in my room, I have never seen so many roses!
We had a wonderful day and in the evening he told me to get all dressed up because he was taking me out to a restaurant for dinner...his elaborate plans continued to amaze me!
We drove to Geneva and he took me to a beautiful hotel for dinner in a restaurant, it was fabulous! I felt very spoilt and just couldn't help but marvel at Andy's sensitivity and sweetness and his atttention to detail throughout the day!
I just had to fill you in on the events of the day and officially let you know that we are engaged!!!
Joyful and excited,
Rach
